Joseph Alexiou will join Hannah Frishberg, editor at Brownstoner, at the Museum of the City of New York for a conversation on how gentrification is again transforming the dynamic urban landscape and toxic waste site Gowanus into a reinvigorated center of post-industrial chic.
Presented by the Brooklyn Brainery and the Gowanus Souvenir Shop, Joseph Alexiou will lead a walking tour of New York's shortest, dirtiest and most important waterway!
Highlights will include: the natural origins of the Gowanus, particularly the tidal estuary and salt marshes; discussion of iconic Gowanus architecture still-extant and sadly removed; the key role the waterway played during the Revolutionary War, the industrial revolution and cleanup of its present-day pollution!
